Ingredients
- 3-1/3 cups sifted cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1-1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
- 2 cups very finely chopped pecans

Step 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 3 9" round cake pans. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Cream butter or margarine, shortening and sugar in large mixer bowl, beat in eggs. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, begin and end with flour. Stir in orange peel and finely chopped pecans.
Divided batter among prepared pans. Bake 25-30 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly with fingertips. Remove from oven, cool in pans 5 minutes. Turn out onto cake racks, cool completely.
