Ingredients

  • 2 T shortening
  • 1 1/2 C white sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 C milk
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 4 C flour
  • 2 t cream of tartar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 C chopped nuts

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening w/ sugar. Mix in eggs. Dissolve soda in milk and add to the creamed mix. Stir in flour, cream of tartar and salt. Stir in nuts.
Pour batter into a 3 lb coffee can or several 1 lb soup cans; fill containers 1/2 to 3/4 full.
Bake at 350 for 1 hr or til a tester comes out clean
