Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil, OR oil of your choice
  • 1 lb cube steak or round steak, grass fed, cut into strips
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup bell peppers, red or green, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup broth, beef or chicken
  • 2 Tbsp liquid aminos, OR soy sauce
  • optional 2 tsp arrowroot starch (for thicker sauce if desired)

Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat the oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add the meat and sauté until browned, about 1 minute.

2. Stir in the onions, garlic, mushrooms and peppers. Cook until tender, about 12 minutes.

3. Sprinkle in the 5 spice and the ginger. Add the stock and aminos, stir well.

4. Bring to a boil. Turn the heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, about 3-4 minutes, or until sauce has thickened a bit, and serve.

*For a thicker sauce, mix the stock and aminos and 2 tsp arrowroot starch in a bowl before adding to the pan. Simmer 1-2 minutes or until sauce has thickened
