Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 6 TBSPs crushed butter-flavored crackers
  • 2 TBSPs finely chopped onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp rubbed sage
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 cans (4 oz each) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 6 TBSPs all purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 4 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1/2 tsp browning sauce, optional
  • Hot mashed potatoes, optional

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a med bowl, combine egg, cracker crumbs, onion, salt, pepper and sage.
2. Add beef and mix well. Shape into four patties. In a med skillet, cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side or until browned; drain.
3. Remove to a platter and keep warm. In the same skillet, saute mushrooms in butter for 2 minutes. Stir in flour; blend well. Add water and bouillon; cook and stir until smooth and thickened.
4. Stir in browning sauce if desired. Return patties to gravy and cook, uncovered, over lo heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with mashed potatoes if desired.
