Ingredients

  • 8 oz. sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded (2 cups)
  • 2 tbsp. dry sherry
  • 2 tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tsp. instant minced onion
  • 1 tsp. water
  • 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 12- to 15-inch loaf French bread, halved lengthwise
  • chili powder, optional
  • 2 small tomatoes, peeled and diced

Preparation

Step 1

Mix cheese, sherry and butter. Reconstitute onion in the water for 2 to 3 min. Add to cheese mixture. Stir in mustard and egg. Spread on French bread halves. Arrange on baking sheet. Sprinkle with chili powder, if used. Cover with a sheet of foil. Bake at 400° for 10 min. or until cheese is melted and bread is heated. Cut each half into 4 pieces. Serve with a garnish of diced tomatoes.
