Smoky Bacon Burgers
You may prepare the meat patties ahead, cover and refrigerate until ready to cook. If desired, patties may be cooked over a charcoal grill.

Ingredients
- 1 lb. very lean ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. finely chopped onion
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. liquid smoke flavoring
- 4 slices bacon
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 tomato slices
- 4 toasted hamburger buns

Step 1
Combine beef, egg, onion, salt, pepper and liquid smoke, blending well. Divide into quarters. Shape each quarter into a thick patty. Wrap a strip of bacon around outside of each patty. Hold with a toothpick. Place burgers on oiled broiler rack. Broil 5 to 6 inches from source of heat for 5 to 8 min. on each side or until meat is done to your liking. To serve, put lettuce and tomato on toasted hamburger buns. Top with cooked patties (removing toothpicks first).
