Ingredients
- 1/2 c. soft butter or margarine
- 1 c. light brown sugar, packed
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- 1/3 c. chopped maraschino cherries

Step 1
Cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth. Blend in flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in walnuts and cherries. Shape the dough into a roll about 14-inches long. Wrap in foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. With a sharp knife, cut dough into ¼-inch slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for about 10 min. or until just golden brown. Remove while warm from the cookie sheets. Cool on a rack. Store in airtight containers.
