Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
Cream sugar, butter and vanilla. Add salt and flour. Mix to make firm dough.
Press into well buttered 9-inch square pan or pie plate. Pierce with fork for traditional shortbread appearance. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Makes 16 squares or 8 slices.
