Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 t baking powder
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup currants or raisins
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 egg
  • sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Cut in butter until crumbly.
Add currants.
Mix egg and milk together and add to flour mixture all at once.
Stir until moistened.
Turn out onto floured board and knead 5-6 times.
Press into 8 inch round; place on cookie sheet.
Cut into 8 wedges, do not separate!
Sprinkle with sugar.
OR
Roll out about 1/2 inch thick and cut into biscuits.
Place onto cookie sheet.
Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until brown.
