Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 " squares of waxed paper
  • Buttered 9"-square pan

Preparation

Step 1

In heavy 3 quart saucepan, melt butter. Add sugar and mix until well blended. Stir in corn syrup; cook until sugar has dissolved; remove pan from heat. Stir in sweetened condensed milk; cook over medium heat stirring constantly until mixture reaches soft ball stage (240 degrees), about 20-30 minutes. Add vanilla. Pour hot mixture into prepared pan. Cool. Use spatula to remove from pan. Cut 36 caramels and wrap individually in waxed paper.
