Ingredients
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup butter flavored shortening
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 cups buttermilk

Step 1
Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl, mixing well. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Dissolve yeast in warm water, let stand 5 minutes. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 10 times. Roll dough to 1/2" thickness, cut with a 2" biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet, cover and let rise in a warm place free from draft, 45 minutes.
Bake at 425 degree oven for 5 minutes, cool. Wrap in foil and freeze. To serve place biscuits on lightly greased baking sheet and thaw. bake at 425 degrees for 5-6 minutes.
