Ingredients

  • Dough:
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 c. butter, room temp
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. milnot soured with 1 T vinegar (set aside for 10 minutes)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Filling:
  • 6 egg whites - let sit until room temp
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 1/2 oz fine ground walnuts

Preparation

Step 1

Cut butter into flour and salt with pastry blender, sprinkle in yeast. After milnot mixture has soured, add egg yolks and 1 tsp vanilla. Pour into flour and mix until well blended. Make dough into 7 balls and put in covered bowl in refrigerator for 15 minutes.

In the meantime, for filling beat egg whites until stiff, slowly add sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla. Fold in ground walnuts. Set aside.

Take one dough ball out at a time. On a floured surface roll into ball and cut into quarters and separate. Then cut each quarter into quarters again. Spread filling over and roll each pastry up. Place on greased pan and bake at 375 for 20 minutes. When slightly brown, remove from pan right away and put on cooling rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
