  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 5 slices white bread
  • 4-6 Tablespoons soft butter
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • cream for sauce or
  • whipped cream for garnish

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9" pie plate lightly with butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon, and set aside. Generously spread one side of each bread slice with soft butter. Cut bread slices in half diagonally. Arrange bread triangles in pie plate, buttered sides up, slightly overlapping, with cut edges all facing the same direction, to form a spiral, sprinkling each slice with the sugar and cinnamon mixture before adding the next overlapping slice. Sprinkle the bread slices with the raisins. In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk, and pour over the bread slices. Let stand for 15 minutes. Bake about 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Serve plain, or garnish with whipped cream, or pour cream over.
