  • 2 pkgs. dry active yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 stick melted butter
  • Bundt or tube pans

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand - you can add 2 addt'l tbsp of sugar in the yeast to help the yeast "proof" more quickly. In a large bowl, pour boiling water over shortening and dissolve. Add all other ingredients and mix well by hand. Cover bowl and let stand overnight in the frig. Roll dough out 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut with biscuit cutter, dip in melted butter and stack in the one piece tub pans. Cover and let rise 2 - 3 hours. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in a 350 degree oven until golden brown.
