Steakhouse Cheddar Burger
By Addie
Bye Bye Boring Burger Night! My Steakhouse Cheddar Burger with Warm Bacon Onion BBQ Sauce is moving in. We usually have burgers in my house at least two or three times a month. My husband and I prefer turkey burgers but the kids love beef. I am constantly experimenting with fun ways to give boring burgers some life. The kids don’t like to get too adventurous when it comes to burgers, so my Steakhouse Cheddar Burger With Warm Bacon Onion BBQ Sauce is just enough “gourmet” that we all love it. I keep these burgers pretty simple most of the time but I sometimes like to add some chopped green onion to the ground beef or some fresh chopped cilantro. Don’t be afraid to give it your own twist. Here is the basic recipe.

Preparation
Step 1
Mix ground meat with steak sauce, salt and pepper and form into 4 equal sized patties. Set aside.
In a medium sized frying pan make BBQ sauce by cooking bacon until browned. Add onions, brown sugar, salt and pepper to the bacon and sauté until onions are cooked, (about 3 minutes).
Add ketchup and cook for a minute or two. Remove from heat, place in bowl, cover and set aside.
Cook burgers on grill or grill pan for about 5 minutes on each side, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads about 160°F, then top with cheese and cook a minute more.
Remove burger from grill, place on a bun and top with warm Bacon Onion BBQ sauce before serving.
Cooking Tips:
Burgers can be made the day before grilling and stored covered in the refrigerator until ready to grill. Remove burgers from refrigerator about 10 minutes prior to grilling so they won’t be ice cold going onto the BBQ.
