Ingredients
- 1 medium onion
- 1 medium green bell pepper
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 (4-ounce) cube steaks
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup each ketchup and water
- 2 tablespoons each cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Chop the onion. Cut the bell pepper into strips.
Combine the flour, salt and black pepper in a shallow dish. Coat steaks with flour mixture.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steaks, onion and bell pepper. Cook, turning steaks occasionally, until browned.
Combine ketchup, water, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and dry mustard in a small bowl and mix well.
Add the ketchup mixture to skillet. Simmer, covered, until steaks are tender, about 15 minutes. Serve with hot cooked pasta.
Grandma's Secret Tips!
With just a couple of changes, Grandma altered this recipe to make something very much like pepper steak. She reduced the amount of ketchup to 1/4 cup, used soy sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce, and omitted the dry mustard and vinegar.
