Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 2 cups cake flour

Preparation
Step 1
In a heavy skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and cook, stirring until the butter is golden brown but not burned. Pour into a bowl and let stand for at least 8 hours.
Stir the butter with a fork and add the sugar, vanilla and egg yolk. Mix the cream of tartar with the flour and add to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms. Shape into balls the size of small walnuts.
Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Place the cookies on the baking shets. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden.
