Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl, let stand 5 minutes. Add shortening, sugar, salt, vinegar, egg and half of the flour, beat at medium speed until well blended. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a medium-stiff dough. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead 4-5 times. Place in a well-greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise free from drafts 1 hour until doubled in bulk. Punch down.

Turn out onto lightly flour surface. Knead 4-5 times and roll out to 1/2" thickness. Cut with a 2-1/2" biscuit cutter, and place in lightly greased 13" x 9" pan. Cover and let rise in warm place about 30 minutes or until doubled in bulk.

Bake at 300 degree oven for 15 minutes, cool. Remove from pan and wrap in aluminum foil. Place foil package in zip-top freezer bag, freeze for up to 1 month.

To serve, remove foil package from bag and let rolls thaw to room temperature. Remove foil wrapping and return rolls to pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.
