Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 C. butter or margarine
  • 2 C. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 C. chopped nuts (optional) - I like pecans, but walnuts are good, also
  • 1 12 oz. pkg. Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

In medium bowl, sift together dry ingredients. Set aside.

In a large heavy saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add packed brown sugar,mix thoroughly with wooden spoon and stir over heat until smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add beaten eggs and vanilla, stir to mix.

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring until mixed. Fold in nuts (optional). Spread mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top, and shake to cover evenly. Bake at 325 for 35 minutes. Cool before cutting into bars.
