Ingredients
- 1 cup white whole wheat flour
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsweetened natural applesauce
- 1 egg white
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
- 6 oz. semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 oz. pecans, roughly chopped

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350. Prepare an 8×8″ baking dish with baking spray (or line with foil or parchment paper).
Whisk together the flour, spices, salt and baking soda. Set aside.
Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Add in the applesauce, egg white, and vanilla and beat until incorporated. Beat in the pumpkin.
On low speed, add in the flour mixture in two additions, mixing just until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and pecans.
Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out with loose crumbs, but not wet.
Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into bars.
