  • 1 cup freshly brewed strong black coffee
  • 1/4 cup sugar, divided
  • 14 ladyfingers, divided
  • 9 oz. mascarpone cheese
  • 2/3 cup whipping cream
  • 1 bar (1.55 ounces) milk chocolate, grated, divided

Step 1

Line the bottom and 2 sides of an 81/2- x 41/2-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving extra over the sides. Place the coffee in a small bowl. Add 2 tbsp. sugar and stir to combine. Let cool. Dip 7 ladyfingers into the coffee mixture and use to line the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons coffee mixture.


Place the mascarpone, cream and the remaining sugar in a medium bowl. Beat with an electric mixer set on low speed until smooth. Spoon over the ladyfingers in the pan. Sprinkle with half of the grated chocolate.


Dip the remaining ladyfingers in the coffee mixture and layer over the chocolate in the pan. Pour the remaining coffee mixture over the ladyfingers. Chill for at least 1 hour. Invert onto a serving dish. Remove the parchment paper. Sprinkle with the remaining chocolate and serve.

Grandma's Secret Tip:

For a more intense flavor, replace the milk chocolate with the same amount of grated dark chocolate and dust the cake with cocoa powder.
