Ingredients
- 3 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 lb bulk sweeet Italian sausage
- 1 T minced onion
- 1 t minced garlic
- 2 t Italian seasoning
- 1 T light olive oil
- 1 t salt
- 1 t pepper
- 1/4 c melted butter
- 12 small baguettes split
- mozarella cheese (if desired)
- peppers and onions (if desired)

Mix the beef, sausage, onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, olive oil, salt and pepper together in a bowl until really combined. Chill in frig at least 1 hr. Mix again after refrigerating. Divide the mixture into 12 portions and form into oblong burgers with rounded edges, approximately 4 inches wide and 12 inches long. They should be somewhat thin.
Preheat an outdoor grill for med heat and lightly oil the grate. Also preheat the oven to 250. Lightly brush the butter over the cut side of the baguettes.
Cook on the grill until the burgers are cooked through. 7-8 min per side. About 5 min before the meat is done lay the baguettes on the grill and brown each side. Place each burger into the baguette, add onions, cheese and peppers if desired and wrap in foil.
Bake the wrapped sandwiches in the preheated oven for 15 min before serving. (you can also just put them back on a low grill instead of oven)
