  • 5 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 1 quart buttermilk
  • 1 c. shortening (applesauce)
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 5 c. flour
  • 3 c. All-Bran Cereal
  • 2 c. Bran Flakes

Preparation

Step 1

Add soda to boiling water. Add buttermilk. Cream shortening, sugar, salt and eggs. Mix flour with cereals. Mix alternately dry and liquid to cream mixture. Begin and end with flour mix. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or less. I only cook for about sixteen minutes. Keep remaining batter in tightly covered bowl and store in fridge for up to two weeks. Makes four dozen
