Ingredients

  • 1/2 to 3/4 lb. boneless round steak, about 3/4 inch thick
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. flour
  • 2 tbsp. salad oil
  • 1 (8 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped carrots
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 tbsp. chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp. shredded sharp process american cheese

Step 1

Cut meat into 2 portions; pound 1/4 inch thick. Combine salt and flour, and coat meat well with flour, and coat meat well with flour mixture. Set aside remaining flour mixture. Brown meat in oil; remove meat from skillet, and place in a small shallow baking dish.

Blend remaining flour with drippings in skillet. Add remaining ingredients except cheese; cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Pour over meat; cover and bake at 350 about 2 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.

Sprinkle cheese over meat, and return to the oven a few minutes.
