Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. whole milk or half & half
  • 1/4 c. butter, melted and cooled
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 c. stale french bread, cut or torn into small pieces
  • 1/2 c. raisins (optional)
  • raw sugar for sprinkling

Step 1

Combine milk and melted butter and set aside. Combine sugar, eggs, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla and beat with an electric mixer at medium speed for 1 minute. Slowly add milk mixture and mix until smooth. Place bread in a lightly greased casserole dish sprinkle with raisins if desired. Pour batter on top of bread and sprinkle with raw sugar if you like. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until set.
