Ingredients

  • 2

    Tbsp. olive oil

  • 1

    large yellow onion, diced

  • 4-5

toes of garlic, minced (or put through a garlic press)

  • 2

    lbs. lean ground beef

  • 2

    (28 oz.)cans crushed tomatoes

  • 1

    (28 oz.)can diced tomatoes

  • 2

    Tbsp. brown sugar

  • 2

    cubes beef bouillon

  • 3-4

Tbsp. chili powder (adjust according to taste)

  • Garnish options:

  • Sour cream

  • Grated Monterey Jack cheese (cheddar is good too)

  • Chopped cilantro,

  • Diced onion

Directions

1. In a large sauce pot, sauté the diced onion in oil for 3-5 minutes on med-high. Add the pressed garlic and sauté 2 minutes longer. 2. Add the ground beef and sauté, stirring frequently, until the meat has browned. 3. Turn the heat down to medium and add the canned tomatoes, brown sugar, beef bouillon, and chili powder. Stir thoroughly and simmer for 1 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. (The longer it simmers, the better the flavors blend.) 4. Serve with garnish toppings of sour cream, grated cheese, cilantro and diced onion.
