REVIEWS:
This is a nice homemade version of sweet and sour chicken. I love how the breaded chicken tastes with the sauce. It's easy to make, and a nice change of pace. However, I wouldn't say that this is my favorite meal... it's great, but I wouldn't want to eat it all the time. My rating: 8/10.
Wow, this is amazing! A little bit soy saucey than sweet, but amazing! Maybe I will try the OJ like others have said. I am not the greatest cook and it wasn't too complicated for me! Thanks a ton! I love it! Too bad my husband doesn't like Chinese!
Thanks so much for this excellent recipe. This is probably the best Chinese food I've ever made. I didn't have 2 lbs of boneless breasts though so used one lb of breast and one of boneless thighs and it was still very good. To save money, I'll probably still do it that way next time. Also, I used brown rice and would NOT recommend that. Something about the texture of the rice and the flavor just made it seem like it wasn't Chinese. If I'm going to splurge, I'll splurge all the way next time and enjoy this with white rice. My husband insists it's a keeper too!
I made this recipe with my 12 year old daughter who loves sweet and sour takeout and we were surprised at how great it turned out,my kids loved it. Will make again .
Just like from the Restaurant! We love sweet and sour chicken from the Chinese restaurants and I've never been able to find a recipe that tasted even close. This one is so good! Everyone loved it and it was so easy!
Open up the Chinese Restaurant in your home! This is very very very very good! I used some chili pineapple sauce instead of the ketcup the second time I made this and it was just like General Tso's Chicken. The breading is perfectly seasoned and comes though the sauce just right. The sauce and chicken can be made ahead of time and assembled for the meal, or you can combine the cooked meat and sauce and freeze it. I also have used the sauce and served with various veggies sauted until tender crisp and served over rice. This will save us money because I really enjoy chinese food and this will satisfy me.
We liked this a lot! I used orange juice in place of the water, to make it an orange sauce and just served the sauce alongside the chicken to be poured on as desired. Unfortunately some of my children think ketchup goes best with chicken. Yuck! But, we all thought it was yummy and will use this recipe again and again!
THIS WAS EXCELLENT! This was so good. Since my kids love orange chicken I did make a small change to the sauce. Instead of using a whole cup of water, I used 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup orange juice. I also started the sauce first and let it simmer on low (stirring often) while I made the rest of the meal. I also added just a touch of crushed red pepper to the flour mixture for an extra kick. Will be making this again.
Excellent! I just finished making this for supper and it is absolutely delicious! It reminds me of General Tso's chicken that we often order when we get Chinese food. I never thought I could come this close to making it myself.
