Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 11 oz. bag of caramels (I like Kraft brand)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Prepare cake mix as directed on box. Pour half of the batter into a greased and floured 9" x 13" baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
Melt the caramels, milk and butter in a saucepan.
Remove cake from oven and pour caramel mixture (except 1/2 cup - set aside) on top. Then sprinkle with pecans and chocolate chips.
Pour remaining batter over baked cake, pecans, chocolate chips and caramel and return to oven for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and drizzle remaining caramel mixture on top or top with your favorite frosting. I prefer the cake served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
