Preparation
Step 1
Toss sliced apples with lemon juice to coat well. Add 1/2 cup sugar and brown sugar, 1/4 cup melted butter, flour and spices, stir until mixture is well blended. Prepare pie shell.
In a food processor, combine topping ingredients; plus until mixture is crumbly or use forks to cut mixture together.
Pour apple mixture into prepared pie shell. Sprinkle topping mix evenly over top of apples.
Place in preheated 375 oven. Bake 45-60 minutes, until apples are tender and topping browned. Check after 30-35 minutes to make sure crust isn't too brown. Use a pie shield or foil to protect crust edge is necessary.

REVIEWS:
Instead of doing the whole apple pie, I had some apple pie filling in the pantry and a shell in the freezer. Just wanted a topping to put on it and this one hit the spot!! Thank you very much for posting this. It turned out wonderfully. I am sure that your pie recipe is great too, but I didnt have much time to peel apples, etc.
This is best apple pie!
This is the best tasting apple pie and easy to make. I do not suggest using a food processor to mix the topping. Use a fork to blend pre-chopped pieces of butter into the remaining topping ingredients. Use your hands to help mix the cold butter into the dry topping ingredients but not too much or the butter will become too soften. Also, lemon juice is important so the apples do not brown.
I made this pie exactly according to the recipe. This was so delicous, the best crisp I've had. A little different with a crust but so good. I had a bit of filling left over so I cooked over medium heat till the apples were tender and ate just that. I made this over the weekend and decided I loved it so much I'm making one four days later for Thanksgiving to take to the family.
