Gingerbread Boys and Girls

Ingredients

• 1 cup butter
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tablespoon water or orange juice
• 2 tablespoons dark corn syrup or molasses
• l/2 teaspoon salt
• 3 1/4 cups flour
• 2 teaspoons soda
• 2 teaspoons cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon ginger
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
• 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add water and syrup and mix. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Mix well and chill at least 1 hour. Prepare a floured surface and roll out dough V8 - 1;4 -inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters. If using as tree ornaments, make hole with toothpick or dried bean before cooking. Before baking, place raisins for eyes, nose, mouth and buttons, or decorate later with Decorator Icingunder Sugar Cookies after they are cooked and cooled. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 3750 for 8 to 10 minutes.
