Ingredients

  • 8 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 T firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 8 (3/4" thick) slices French or Italian bread
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 c firmly-packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Step 1

Blend eggs, milk, brown sugar, and vanilla. Pour 1/2 into greased 9x13 pan. Place bread slices in mixture. Pour remaining egg mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Set oven to 350. Melt butter in 9x13 pan. Stir in 1/2 cup brown sugar and syrup. Sprinkle with pecans. Carefully place refrigerated bread slices on nuts. Pour remaining egg mixture over bread. Bake until puffed and lightly browned, 30-35 minutes. For each serving, invert 2 slices onto plate. Serve warm.
