Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Spray a 9 by 13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Whisk 1/3 cup of water, oil, eggs, and 2 tablespoons espresso powder in a large bowl to blend. Add the brownie mix. Stir until well blended. Stir in the chocolate chips. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out with a few moist crumbs attached, about 35 minutes. Cool completely.

Meanwhile, dissolve the remaining 2 teaspoons of espresso powder in the remaining 2 tablespoons of water in a medium bowl. Whisk in the vanilla. Add the powdered sugar and butter and whisk until smooth. Pour the glaze over the brownies. Refrigerate until the glaze is set. Cut into bite-size pieces. Arrange the brownies on a platter and serve.

I made the brownies according to the recipe except I didn't bake as long because the brownies were not very thick in a 9x13 pan. Didn't Giada make them in a square (8x8?) pan on the show? I would think that in a smaller pan they would require the full time to bake and would come out a little richer/more decadent and not dry. I will try them again with a square pan.

These are my go-to brownies when short on time and I feel like the mocha flavor. I used a 9x9 brownie pan instead and skip the icing since I like it without. They're great for bake sales at work as well as for family and friends. Yummy!

Soo good and soo easy-used a 9x9 dish and had to make 1/2 more of icing. My new go to dessert.

These were great! I made them as a dessert for Easter and the Expresso Powder, although difficult to find and purchase, accentuated the brownies to the point where I may make these on a regular basis! Thank you again Giada!

A great way to dress up a boxed mix. Instead of using espresso powder, I used double the amount of instant coffee, which always works well as a substitute for espresso powder. I am giving the recipe 4 stars, not 5, because I think that the boxed mix does not have the texture that first class brownies made from scratch are known for... kind of like a boxed cake mix compared to a classic genoise from scratch..

These were the best brownies I've ever tasted! The espresso powder was hard to find in my area, but I've already given the recipe to several friends that loved them!

Absolutely incredible. Everyone loved the brownies and I get asked for the recipe each time I make them. Thank you Giada!

These taste awesome! I used instant espresso powder and the espresso flavor in the brownies is very subtle however the espresso flavor in the glaze is much more pronounced which makes for a real nice overall mocha flavor. I used a 12x8 inch brownie pan and 1 batch of the glaze was not enough to cover it all so I made another batch and had some left over so next time I would make the glaze times one and a half. I tweaked the glaze a bit to my liking by replacing 1/2 of the water in the glaze with dark rum (the subtle rum flavor with the espresso is truly special and used a little less sugar.

These are excellent and so easy to make!

This recipe is extremely easy and tastes fabulous!!! I've made it many times for work and parties, and have always received rave reviews!

While I would appreciate a homemade brownie recipe a lot better, this recipe was out of this world! I am a coffee lover to begin with, and the combination with delicious chocolate is the best! The glaze is definately a big highlight to this. Although I opted for 2 Tablespoons of brewed expresso.

These brownies are to die for! I have been making them for years and they are always a hit! They are simple and delicious. Like another reviewer noted, I always make them in a 9x9 pan and there's always enough glaze.

ANOTHER GREAT RECIPE!! These brownies are to die for. My husband and my two young girls loved them. I would make these for a get together or even bring to someones party. I don't think I'll go back to regular brownines. Thank you, Giada!

Great recipe! Everybody loved it, they're so chocolaty and you still get the great coffee taste at the end that just makes your senses go to heaven and back. I used Puertorican coffee and it was just great. By the way I did use the 9 x 13 inch pan and it came out great.

These brownies are so good! I took them to a ladies night function --they were a hit! Be sure to put in all the espresso powder -- it's such a flavor booster! The glaze was wonderful too. I added coffee liquor and vanilla both to the glaze. I used a 9x9 inch pan -- so did Giada in the video although the recipe calls for a 9x13 inch. I don't think I'll ever go back to regular brownies -- these are so much better and so easy.

These are amazing! Huge hit! Very easy to make as well. : Will be making these over and over again! Love Giada's recipes and show!
