• 24 ounces of all-purpose flour
• 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
• 3/4 pound butter, at room temperature
• 2 1/4 cups sugar
• 3 large eggs 1 tablespoon vanilla
• assorted food coloring
• Royal Icing, for decoration

Step 1

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl ans set aside. Cream the butter and sugar together in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix on low speed until well combined. Scrape the bowl with a rubber spatula.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, occasionally scraping the bowl. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator until firm.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/8-inch thick and cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking pan and bake for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on the size of the cookies. The cookies should be golden brown on the edges. Let cool. Decorate as desired.
