Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1/4 c warm water
  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside
Mix dry ingredients in order given
Cut in shortening
Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture
Blend thoroughly
Refrigerate in a covered bowl
After at least one hour, roll out dough and cut with flour biscuit cutter or glass
Place biscuits on greased sheet pan and allow to rise slightly (the colder the dough the longer this step takes)
Bake at 400 until puffy and lightly brown
