Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 Cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup molasses
- 4 1/2-5 1/2 cups flour
- 4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt

Step 1
Thoroughly mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients. Cover and chill dough for 1 hour. Heat oven to 375. Shape dough into balls. Shake in granulated sugar in a lunch bag. Place 3 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake about 6 minutes for soft cookies (cracks won't have formed yet). Let cool a few minutes on cookie sheet before removing to a cooling rack.
