Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs - separated
  • 2 Tbl - heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cups - med chopped walnuts
  • Currant Jelly

Preparation

Step 1

With fingers, blend flour,butter,1 cup of sugar and the salt.

Add the egg yolks, cream and vanilla and mix to make a pliable dough.

Roll out to 3/16" thick and cut into daisy shapes. Punch center hole in 1/2 of the cookies.

For the cookies with the center hole :
Beat egg whites lightly and brush the tops of the cookies. Mix the chopped walnuts with the remaining sugar and sprinkle on the cookies.

Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350 until golden - about 15-20 mins

When cool, take current jelly and put between each pair, the top has the hole and sugar, the bottoms are solid.
