  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1 c warm water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/4 c melted shortening
  • 3 1/2 c flour

Step 1

Sprinkle yeast on water and let stand 10 minutes. Add beaten egg and other ingredients, using half of the flour. Blend well. Add remaining flour and knead to soft, smooth dough. You may need a little more flour. Place in greased bowl. Roll out half the dough at a time into a circle. Cut into wedges and roll up. place on baking sheet and let rise until nearly double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and butter the tops for a soft crust.

VARIATION: Also recipe may be used for cinnamon rolls. Just roll out the dough and sprinkle generously with sugar and cinnamon and roll into a log and cut. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 mintues.
