Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons water
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/3 cup finely chopped nuts

Step 1
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, water and salt. Cook over low heat until the butter is melted.
Increase the heat to medium-high. Cook until the temperature reaches 300 degrees, stirring constantly.
Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour the toffee onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Smooth with a spatula into an even layer. Sprinkle the chocolate over the toffee. When the chocolate melts, spread out evenly over the entire toffee layer.
Top with nuts, if desired. Refrigerate until chocolate is set. Break into pieces.
