Ingredients
- Chocolate filling:
- 1/2 c. soft margarine
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 2 tbsp. milk
- 1/4 c. chopped chocolate pieces
- Plain sugar
- 3/4 c. chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp. shortening
- 2 tbsp. white corn syrup
- 1 tbsp. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
Mix margarine, salt, vanilla and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in flour, milk and chopped chocolate pieces. Shape into 1" balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. With your thumb, make a depression in each cookie.
Bake at 375 F for 10 - 12 minutes. Roll in sugar and cool. If there is not much of a depression in each cookie, press down again.
Meanwhile, over hot, not boiling water, melt chocolate chips with shortening. Stir. Cool slightly. Add corn syrup, water and vanilla. Heap this filling into the centers of the cookies.
