Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray and set aside.
Season chicken with salt and pepper and place in a bowl with egg substitute. Toss to coat and set aside.
Put flour in another bowl. One at a time, use a fork or tongs to transfer chicken nuggets to the flour bowl, allowing excess egg substitute to drain back into the egg bowl. Thoroughly coat the chicken with flour and then transfer to the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining flour and chicken.
Bake the chicken in the oven until fully cooked, about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, to make the sauce, combine broth with cornstarch in a nonstick skillet and whisk to dissolve. Set stove to medium-low heat. Add syrup, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, sesame oil and garlic. Mix well. Stirring often, cook until its thick enough to coat a spoon, 2-3 minutes.
Remove skillet from heat. Add chicken and toss to coat.
Plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and scallions.

REVIEWS:
I was really looking forward to trying this recipe, and was very dissapointed. When she says the syrup is to thicken it and give a little sweetness, she was telling the truth. It was overly sweet. All we could taste was syrup and vinegar, and ended up throwing it out was so bad. Wish I wouldve made the sesame chicken from $10 dinners instead.
Really easy and pretty good but the ketchup was a major part of the flavor and that was not what I wanted.
Ketchup taste overpowered the rest of the sauce. I like ketchup but not in this recipe. I ended up dumping the sauce. Maybe i'll try one more time without ketchup. Also, agree that there's no need to use the flour. it didn't make the chicken crispy. It was like grilled chicken with flour on it. I'd rather use grilled chicken.
Outstanding. No longer need to run out for Chinese. This curbs the craving. Very flavorful.
Oven baking the chicken was great and the sauce was spicy! The sauce was so good I would use it even with grilled chicken or pork.
This was surprising easy to make and very tasty! My family really liked it and suggested I keep this recipe! Baking the chicken was a great idea and I thought the flour coating helped the sauce stick to the chicken after baking. Served it with rice and broccoli. I'll make this one again!
This was great! My husband loved it and he typically won't eat anything healthy. He said it was like sesame chicken. I used agave nectar instead of syrup, egg whites instead of egg beaters and quinoa flour instead of wheat flour. I cooked chicken for my husband and halibut for me. It was good with halibut as well. I made jasmine rice to compliment the dish. It was quick as well. It was great. I made a little more sauce since on of the viewers suggested it was dry and not enough to cover the chicken. Thanks for the heads up. This was an excellent dish. I love it! Great recipe Lillian! I'm going to try the egg rolls for Tuesday night dinner.
I always make the recipe exactly as the recipe call for the first time. I am really surprized at the ratings considering the taste was bold and it was my favorite from the episode. Maybe following the recipe before you tweek it would help? I liked this as it is.
It was just OK. I used half the amount of cornstarch as suggested in other reviews, which was a good idea - the sauce would've been a paste with all of it. I too agree that the dredging process was a complete waste - it made absolutely no difference at all and I could taste flour in the dish. Definitely doesn't taste like traditional sesame chicken, although I didn't really expect it to. I have much better healthy chinese chicken recipes than this so I won't be making this one again.
I made this recipe after seeing on TV. I didn't use egg substitute - but just a regular egg and then added some panko breadcrumbs to the whole wheat flour. The chicken turned out great. On the sauce I used honey instead of the syrup and doubled the recipe to make sure I had enough. I would suggest using more garlic. It is a very light recipe and I enjoyed it for that reason.
We are not fussy eaters, but this had no taste. Like the idea of baking the chicken (that came out great, but the sauce was flavorless. Won't make this again unless I doctor that sauce.
Sauce was veryc thick and a bit flavorless. Not fond of the whole wheat coating ... Might try Panko breadcrumbs next time. Recipe gave mea basis to. Begin working with but would definitely opt to vary next time. Needs flavor and zing!!!!!
My sweet -n- sticky sauce came out like the taste of barbecue sauce. not sweet at all ... what a bummer.
Very easy to make, but didn't taste ANYTHING like the sesame chicken that I love....I guess because it's low calorie means low taste...oh well...no wonder she's so hungry!
Very easy to prepare and I had high hopes. Nice concept but not very tastey. Chicken did turn out well but the sauce does not taste like the sesame chicken that I know. I agree with mish2g, too much cornstarch.
This tastes nothing like sesame chicken. The sauce is kinda gross and tastes mainly of ketchup. It doesn't do a good job of coating the chicken. In my opinion, there's too much cornstarch, so if (big IF I felt like making this again, I'd lessen the amount of cornstarch in the sauce. I might also skip the dredging process,,,not sure how necessary it is.
Recipe worked great, but I will triple the sauce ingredients next time - a bit dry. I'll also add some snow peas for color. By the time the chicken was baked, I had the sauce made and some fried rice warmed up. TA DAAAAH! Dinner in about 15 minutes. NOTE: If you are doing fried rice, save the chicken egg dip to add to the rice in the wok.
Changed it up a little and added some orange zest and extra red pepper flakes for extra "kick". Family loved it, very easy and good!
My wife and I tried this recipe today. I had watched this segment at the gym. Its good, not like what I get at lunch.. It tastes healthier than the deep fried sesame chicken i'm used to. It was a little tangier than I might prefer. I liked that it was quick and easy to make. We served it with rice and broccoli. I made about 50% more sauce than she does in the tv show. I ended up using 1 more tbs of syrup and a little more than half the vinegar. I think I accidentally put a little more ketchup than I was supposed to. I'll probably make it again, but blend it's healthier style with another recipe from somewhere else.
I just made this for lunch. My husband loves sesame chicken so I asked him if he would try this if I made it. [ I am on Weight Watchers, he is not] And He loved it!!! He said its not 'his' sesame chicken he gets for take-out but he would gladly eat this often. It was tangy but sweet and yes the sauce was sticky. It was delicious!
