  • 5 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 lb. shortening
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • cold water

Preparation

Step 1

In large bowl mix slightly less than 5 cups flour with salt. Cut in shortening. Mix with fingertips until coarse. Beat egg in a cup. Add vinegar to egg and beat again. Add to fill with cold water, making 8 oz. total. Make a well in flour and add liquid. Mix with a fork. Gently press dough into a ball. Wrap and chill before rolling. Cut off the amount you need and refrigerate for 6 days or freeze excess for up to 2 months.
