  • Sift together

  • 3

    cups flour

  • 1

    teaspoon nutmeg

  • Cream Well

  • 1

    cup butter

  • 3/4

    cup sugar

  • Blend in

  • 1

    egg

  • 2

    teaspoons vanilla

  • 2

    teaspoons rum extract

  • Frosting

  • 3

    tablespoons butter

  • 1/2

    teaspoon vanilla

  • 1

    teaspoon rum flavoring

  • 1/2

    cup powdered sugar

Directions

Gradually add dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape dough on lightly floured surface into log rolls, 1/2 inch in diameter. Cut in 3' pieces, place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 350 degrees - 12 to 15 minutes, until light golden brown. Cool; ice tops and sides of cookies. Mark frosting with tines of fork to resemble bark. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. FROSTING: Add alternately with 2-3 T evaporated milk or cream (I used milk) Beat well until spreading consistency. Makes 3 dozen cookies. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOTES : If dough is too sticky, cool in refrigerator until dough can be handled more easily.
