Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/4 Pounds flank steak
  • 1/3 Cup dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 Teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 oz Can tomato paste
  • 1 Cup chopped onion
  • 1 Cup ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon chili powder
  • 3 Tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons molasses
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Teaspoon dry mustard

Step 1

Step One

Trim fat from steak; cut in half crosswise.

Step Two

Combine 1 tbsp. brown sugar and pepper; stir well.

Step Three

Rub steak with sugar mixture.

Step Four

Place remaining brown sugar, tomato paste, and next 9 ingredients in slow-cooker; stir well.

Step Five

Add steak, turning to coat.

Step Six

Cover with lid; cook on high heat setting for 1 hour.

Step Seven

Reduce to low heat setting and cook 7-8 hours.

Step Eight

Remove steak from slow cooker; reserving sauce in slow cooker.

Step Nine

Shred steak with forks (should just fall apart).

Step Ten

Return shredded steak to cooker; stir well to coat with sauce.
