Ingredients
- Filling:
- unbaked pie crust
- 1 C flour
- 1/2 C brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/4 C shortening
- pinch salt
- Crumbs:
- 1 C water
- 1 T flour, divided
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/2 C dark karo syrup
- 1/2 C brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
Heat water in a pan. Mix in 1 T flour, salt, egg, dark karo syrup & brown sugar. Boil a few minutes, then cool. Add vanilla.
Mix 1 C flour, soda, shortening, brown sugar & salt. Put first part in unbaked crust, put crumbs on top bake 350° about 1/2 hr.
