Ingredients

  • My sloppy Joe recipe is my own and I will try to give it to you the best I can:
  • I brown 2 pounds of ground chuck with 1 large onion and drain.
  • Add a couple of splashes of Worcestershire Sauce, a squeeze of lemon juice, about 2 Tbsp (?) of yellow mustard (I like a lot and am only guessing here) and a lot of ketchup to make it very moist.
  • Add 1/2 chopped green pepper, salt and pepper, and bring all to high heat and reduce to simmer for 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.

That is it. Nothing to it but we love it and the lemon not only affords it tanginess but tenderizes the meat as well. You will laugh as when I make mine, I put the filling on the bun and absolutely have to have a dill pickle slice on it. Everyone thinks I'm nuts but that is how I like it. As it is so easy, I always wonder why one buys the Manwhich? I know Jan does but she hates to cook.
