Ingredients
- 3 Squares (1-oz each) Unsweetened Chocolate
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter or Margarine
- 2 1/4 Cups Light Brown Sugar, Firmly Packed
- 3 Eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- 3/4 tsp Salt, Divided
- 2 1/4 Cups Cake Flour, Sifted
- 2 Cups Sour Cream, Divided
- 1 Cup Boiling Water
- 1 Bag (12-oz) Semisweet Chocolate Chips

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. If using a glass-baking dish, preheat to 325 degrees. Lightly grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
Melt chocolate in small cup set in simmering water or melt in microwave following manufacturers' directions; cool.
In large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, beat butter until fluffy-light. Add brown sugar and eggs, beating at high speed until light and creamy, about 5 minutes. At low speed, blend in vanilla and chocolate; add baking soda and ½ tsp salt. Add flour alternately with 1cup sour cream, beginning and ending with flour, beating on low speed until smooth. Stir in boiling water until combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on wire rack. Melt chocolate chips. Blend in remaining 1cup sour cream and remaining ¼ tsp salt, if desired; cool slightly. Spread frosting evenly over top of cooled cake; let set. Store any remaining cake, covered, in refrigerator.
