Easy and delicious! Made some biscuits and green beans to go along with it.
This used to be served in the Long Beach Ca. school systems for lunch in the 1950s & 60s. I haven't made this in years, but I grew up with it. Most kids looked forward to this on the lunch menu. Love it !
I have always loved this stuff. Williamsport (PA) schools used to serve it also; it was called Gravy Train.
Yes! Yes! I used to have my mom go to the school to buy this lunch and bring it home when I was sick! (I was spoiled, she did!) I just made it and wow...delish! I added some mushrooms because now I'm older (56), and it was totally fab. What a dish! Try it!
My dad made this with mushrooms. We look forward to the nights when dad had to cook. I cooked it for our kids and now when 2 sons are going to university it is a staple for them.
Just like I remembered it in elementary school. Easy, great comfort food. Yum!!
Childhood dish always made by my father. We have always had our on rice and add a little worstshire sauce. Try it with a diced Jalapeano for a little kick. For a side we do cornbread and hearty vegatable like green beans or broc
As many said, this also was served In Michigan school systems in 50 and 60's - loved it and ALWAYS got a double order. I used a can of Gordon foods canned brown gravy , with the hamburger and onions; it was thicker as I remember it, and very good with mashed potatoes and green beans or corn.
