Hamburger Steaks Smothered in Onions

I used to make this dinner for Jack when we lived in Swansea,
Mass and it was a favorite of his. Serve with mashed potatoes
and peas.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs ground chuck
- 4 medium onions, sliced
- 2 Tbsps margerine or butter
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 2/3 cup of water

Preparation
Step 1
Saute onions in the margerine in a skillet until golden brown. Add the water, sugar, and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove onions from pan and set aside. Shape the chuck into six patties. Brown in skillet. Top with the onion mixture, cover and simmer until good and hot. Delicious with mashed potatoes and peas.
