Ingredients
- 6 oz licorice, cut into small pieces
- 1 cup water
- 1.75 cups cake flour
- 1.25 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 sticks butter, room temp (in pieces)
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp anise or licorice extract

Step 1
Combine licorice and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until licorice breaks down. Mixture will be lumpy and goopy.
Preheat oven to 350.
In a bowl, combine milk, eggs, and extracts. In mixer bowl, combine flours, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix until blended. Add butter in chunks and mix until combined. Add wet mixture, followed by licorice. Mix well.
Scoop into cupcake pans, bake 15-18 minutes.
