Ingredients

  • Dry rub:
  • 4 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup dry rub
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 (20-oz) bottle barbecue sauce
  • Buns or rolls
  • 3 Tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Preparation

Step 1

1. Thoroughly coat meat with dry rub and massage into meat for a few minutes. Ideally, cover and refrigerate overnight.

2. Place meat in slow cooker; add beef broth and bay leaves. Cover slow cooker; cook on low setting for about 10 hours.

3. Remove bay leaves and some of the fat. Using two forks, shred pork. Stir in barbecue sauce. Cover and cook another 2 hours. Serve on buns.
